Common Questions

How do I get involved?

Those interested in choir can attend a rehearsal where they will be welcomed and can immediately participate. Instrumentalists should contact Stan Collins, Director of Instrumental Ministries to schedule an interview.

When are rehearsals?

We rehearse each Wednesday evening from 6:30-7:50 in the Choir Room adjacent to the Worship Center. The majority of rehearsals are combined with the choir and orchestra. The Praise Band (worship team) and Orchestra continue rehearsal from 8-9pm. Additional rehearsals are scheduled in advance for special events.

Do I have to audition and do I have to read music?

Auditions are not required to participate in choir. The ability to read music is not required to participate in choir. The ability to "match pitch" with your section (soprano/alto/tenor/bass) is required. All Praise Band (worship team) and soloists are by audition only. Auditions can be scheduled with the Pastor of Worship. Instrumentalists who desire to participate should have a history of private instruction and/or significant orchestra/band background. The ability to read music with good sight reading skills is required. Interested instrumentalists are encouraged to schedule an interview with Stan Collins, Director of Instrumental Ministries.

What do we wear?

We do not use robes in our choral program. The Pastor of Worship will request the choir members to wear selected colors for Sunday services. Concert Black is used for most special events. No jeans, halter tops, spaghetti straps, strapless tops or strapless dresses. Heavy cologne or perfume is strongly discouraged.

Does the choir have to memorize all music?

Yes! But...we use music throughout rehearsals; CD demos are available to assist in learning and...we teleprompt all lyrics to the choir! It is MUCH easier than expected and assists us to be a true "worship-leading choir."

Do I have to be at every rehearsal? What if I miss a rehearsal? What if I work on Wednesday evenings?

Everyone misses a rehearsal from time to time due to sickness, family or work responsibilities. Most new songs are rehearsed over numerous weeks recognizing that someone may miss a week of rehearsal. If you miss a Wednesday rehearsal, you should still be able to confidently sing for the following Sunday services. To regularly miss rehearsals or not rehearse on Wednesday evenings with the team would be very difficult for even a seasoned professional. Regular Wednesday evening participation is vital to the integrity of our ministry.

Do I have to participate in choir to be a member of the Praise Band or Worship Team?

Yes! All of our worship leading team are participants in the choir and/or orchestra.
