Discover Dynamic Life Week Three

This weekend we talked about the 2nd key discipline in a growing spiritual life, dynamic life: Yield Some Time to God.

            Delight in God’s Truth
            Yield Some Time to God

We learned that God really does desire a close intimate relationship with us. When you trust in Christ His Spirit comes to dwell in you and He wants to speak into your life and guide you in close personal way, but you must desire it. Remember James 4:8?
“Come close to God and He will come close to you.”

Rick Warren wrote, “You are as close to God as you choose to be.” According to James 4:8, he is right! If you make the time to draw near to God, He promises to draw near to you. The only question is, “Will you draw near to Him?” In order to get close to someone it requires TIME and TALK. If you want to get to know God better you are going to have to yield some time to Him and talk to Him. We spoke this weekend about how to do those two things and this week many groups are meeting to talk about how to yield some time to God. As you think about that discipline this week put it into practice by giving God 15 minutes a day.

Start with 1-2 minutes in prayer. Just ask God to reveal Himself to you and speak to you today. Then take about 5 minutes and read through a passage of scripture. Read it several times. Look at key words. Look for key truths and principles that you can take from the passage. Listen for God’s voice. Then take about 5 minutes to jot down a few thoughts. Ask two questions and give a one sentence answer to each one. What is God saying in this passage? What does this mean to you? Work on memorizing one verse from the Bible each week. Then spend the last 3-4 minutes talking to God. Remember what we learned about prayer? First, talk about God (praise & thanksgiving), then talk about what God wants (His will and purpose), and then talk about you.

Don’t get discouraged. It may feel awkward and difficult at times. Some days may seem dry (like eating oatmeal J) but it is still good for you! Little by little you will get more comfortable reading His word and learning to talk to God like a friend. Yield some time to God. It is an indispensable discipline to growing in dynamic life!
